Choosing CIDESCO

One of 8 CIDESCO Certified Schools in the U.S.

Like many other future estheticians, I want to own my own business some day. When the day comes for me to open the doors of my spa, I want to know the ins and outs of every service I offer and be able to provide support for my employees in every aspect of their own practices.

I knew AVEDA would provide me with an excellent education, especially in a beauty-savvy city like San Francisco; and my research into Cinta AVEDA revealed an exciting and different educational option: CIDESCO, short for Comité Internacional D’Esthétique et de Cosmétologie.

CIDESCO is an internationally recognized certification in beauty therapy. This program is essentially a continuation of the Esthiology program where you can learn advanced versions of all the subject matter covered in Esthiology, plus much more.

You will likely start with a 10-week massage course taught by educator Christy. With 15+ years of experience in massage and skin care, she can teach you almost anything you want to know about massage, including special modalities like pre-natal technique and Thai massage.

Educator Kris covers machines like the galvanic, which uses electrical current to penetrate beneficial products further into the skin and the high frequency, which creates ozone gas on the skin’s surface to help manage the overgrowth of p. bacteria, which is a contributing factor to acne.

Maria can round out your CIDESCO education by divulging her make-up success tips, in-depth product knowledge and more, all collected over more than 30 years in the industry.

Any esthetician can benefit from the advanced topics that are covered in this specialized program, but if you’re thinking about following an entrepreneurial route, it’s practically a must.

Esthiology Program

The Esthiology program is a total of 600 hours which is completed in a total of 5 months. You have the choice to attend school either Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday.  The program is split in half. The first 300 hours introduce you to Aveda and how it all began and includes most of the theory, which covers all subjects from make-up to waxing and facials.  The last 300 hours are mostly practical, hands on in a spa room performing services.  When placed in a salon / spa environment you begin to take clients, perform facials, skin analysis, waxing, etc.

The school does a lot of marketing to bring many guests so students have a lot of practice and will be ready once graduating. Guest speakers come in at least once a week to teach you about advanced topics.  At the end of the class the speakers usually give out their contact information to give students the opportunity to attend more advanced classes outside of school, or to contact them if they are seeking employment.  Many spas love Aveda students.  They welcome you to bring in your resume and be interviewed by them to see if your a perfect candidate.

Cinta Aveda Institute acknowledges students for their hard work. Once a month there is an assembly where they recognize students with certificates when they achieve their  goals or perfect attendance in that previous month. If wanting to take more advanced training there is now a program called CIDESCO which is for candidates that seek to get not only an esthetician license but also a massage therapist license. You can continue on to this program after completing your 600 hours of esthiology training.

CIDESCO Educators

Every esthetics educator at Cinta Aveda Institute has an immense knowledge of ingredients, skin care, machines and the overall integumentary system. They truly care about their students and are passionate about training us for success.

We also have many educators that are CIDESCO ambassadors. CIDESCO is like grad school for estheticians. It means that you are certified anywhere in the world. It is the system that they use in Europe. It is a very challenging test and encompasses the body, massage, more machines, skin, many advanced techniques and how everything in the body works together.

The fact that our educators are willing to push themselves and make time to study after being at school from 9am-8pm really says something about how much they care. They make you feel at ease about asking any question and make sure that if you’re struggling grasping a concept that you have one on one help in the area that you are struggling with. They teach you advanced techniques as well as explain some real-life situations that one day you may find yourself in. Hearing about their experiences makes it easier to know the do’s and don’ts in the industry.

You can tell that they are all very passionate about what they do and eager to share their knowledge with the students. They are always willing to help with schoolwork and make you feel comfortable in the classroom and on the spa floor.
