Esthiology Program

September 4, 2012
By

The Esthiology program is a total of 600 hours which is completed in a total of 5 months. You have the choice to attend school either Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday.  The program is split in half. The first 300 hours introduce you to Aveda and how it all began and includes most of the theory, which covers all subjects from make-up to waxing and facials.  The last 300 hours are mostly practical, hands on in a spa room performing services.  When placed in a salon / spa environment you begin to take clients, perform facials, skin analysis, waxing, etc.

The school does a lot of marketing to bring many guests so students have a lot of practice and will be ready once graduating. Guest speakers come in at least once a week to teach you about advanced topics.  At the end of the class the speakers usually give out their contact information to give students the opportunity to attend more advanced classes outside of school, or to contact them if they are seeking employment.  Many spas love Aveda students.  They welcome you to bring in your resume and be interviewed by them to see if your a perfect candidate.

Cinta Aveda Institute acknowledges students for their hard work. Once a month there is an assembly where they recognize students with certificates when they achieve their  goals or perfect attendance in that previous month. If wanting to take more advanced training there is now a program called CIDESCO which is for candidates that seek to get not only an esthetician license but also a massage therapist license. You can continue on to this program after completing your 600 hours of esthiology training.

My First Photo Shoot at Cinta Aveda

I loved working on the Creative Team at Cinta Aveda Institute.  For my first photo shoot, I was privileged to work with Emily Rosser, a Masters photography student from The Academy of Art.  She was given a budget to hire a stunning model from Ford Modeling Agency.  We shot at a fabulous location on Fillmore Street called, Le Labo.  Le Labo is an adorable perfumery that custom blends signature notes four your unique and personalized aroma. From the bare bones warehouse/lab-like set up inside, to the simplistic packaging of the scents and candles, to the zen-like spa vibe, this place made for a great day of shooting!

Emily was in charge of styling the model, while she left all artistic creativity to her hair and make-up up to me. I airbrushed all of the models make-up and gave her a beach wave in her hair. I wanted her to look done, yet effortlessly flawless.

I really feel like this great experience helped me grow artistically and professionally.  I realized that going on site is a lot of work, but when your are well equipped with an organized kit and have all the essentials, you are golden! I built a stellar rapport with the photographer and she calls me all the time with gigs. I also realized the power of networking. I had a stack of by business cards with me. The photographer took some to give to her fellow photog colleges and my phone is off the hook!  Thanks Cinta for this opportunity!  : )

Bangin’ Brows

Being a Cosmetology student I never thought I could see myself interested in waxing, but I was definitely wrong! My eyebrows have gone from a part of my face that was continually overlooked, to a part of my face that is now constantly looked at!

After getting brow training from a Cinta Aveda educator I learned the importance of perfect eyebrows and how they complete the face and look for every individual! I learned the points to accentuate when waxing or tweezing and how the arch can completely change your face.

Ever since, my brows have become an obsession! I have been practicing my waxing skills and teaching other people about the importance of having and maintaining perfect brows!

In the past I had days where all my makeup came out amazing, but for some reason it still felt like an off day. I would stare at the mirror trying to figure out what I needed to fix and now I realize it was because that morning my brows weren’t up to par.

For upkeep I usually wax my eyebrows about once every two weeks and tweeze a few out of place hairs throughout the waiting period. It has worked wonders for me in keeping a flawless eyebrow appearance. Eyebrow waxing has not only become a hobby but a hidden passion I discovered while at school. I would recommend perfecting your brows as a hobby to anyone!

Study in San Francisco!

There are many benefits that my classmates and I enjoy about the location of the Cinta Aveda Institute. First of all, it’s fairly convenient to commute and my classmates and I come from all different parts of the Bay Area. The easiest way is taking BART via the Montgomery stop, which is  just two blocks away from the school. When we have our lunch break, there are tons of delicious restaurants and cafes, great shopping  in Union Square and the Yerba Buena Gardens are just blocks away!

The location also offers great exposure from the clients that come in, most of them being professional types trying to fit in a brow wax or mini facial on their lunch breaks which in turn, pushes us to stay on our A-game. It’s great to experience this hustle and bustle and to be able to get the opportunity to deliver to a more time-constricted and results-driven clientele.  And, with so many salons and spas in the city, it really says a lot about the Institute that we stay busy and that these time-constricted professionals of such a chic city choose to come here again and again.

Last but not least, at the end of the school day it’s nice to unwind and have an amazing night in one of the most exciting cities in the world, San Francisco!

CIDESCO Educators

Every esthetics educator at Cinta Aveda Institute has an immense knowledge of ingredients, skin care, machines and the overall integumentary system. They truly care about their students and are passionate about training us for success.

We also have many educators that are CIDESCO ambassadors. CIDESCO is like grad school for estheticians. It means that you are certified anywhere in the world. It is the system that they use in Europe. It is a very challenging test and encompasses the body, massage, more machines, skin, many advanced techniques and how everything in the body works together.

The fact that our educators are willing to push themselves and make time to study after being at school from 9am-8pm really says something about how much they care. They make you feel at ease about asking any question and make sure that if you’re struggling grasping a concept that you have one on one help in the area that you are struggling with. They teach you advanced techniques as well as explain some real-life situations that one day you may find yourself in. Hearing about their experiences makes it easier to know the do’s and don’ts in the industry.

You can tell that they are all very passionate about what they do and eager to share their knowledge with the students. They are always willing to help with schoolwork and make you feel comfortable in the classroom and on the spa floor.

Discovering Aveda

August 13, 2012

It was all an accident, how I found Aveda.  I originally was looking for a specific product with another company to help my severely damaged hair. I was shopping in Santana Row and had walked into 3 salons and Aveda was the last.  I did not know anything about Aveda and was about to walk out, because they did not sell the product I wanted.  A sales associate approached me and asked what it was I wanted to achieve and I am grateful she did!

I explained to her how I bleached/lightened my hair 4 times in 1 week, going from black to platinum blonde.  My hair was fried, frizzy and definitely dry.  She introduced the Smooth Infusion line to me and I purchased the serum, shampoo, conditioner and prep product.  Before I purchased each item I went into the bathroom and quickly read the reviews online to ensure it was going to work. It is a must to research any product I purchase before I add it to my daily beauty regime. There were over a 1,000 ratings for the products rating it close to perfect.

I was more than satisfied with the results. My hair was amazingly soft and shiny. It was then I realized how great Aveda must be. I had tried many other well known brands, but nothing compared to Aveda.

I can say I was no longer embarrassed to walk around because of my hair being severely damaged.

This was the first great experience I had with Aveda before I even knew I wanted to attend the Cinta Aveda Institute.
