DIY Brightening Face & Body Scrub

Lemon, Sugar, Olive Oil, Honey are the ingredients of this scrub.

I know we can always buy scrubs at a store for convenience but it’s always fun to do it yourself from time to time. And also, a lot of times, you don’t really find that one scrub or product you are looking for. So here is a quick and easy lemon and sugar face and body scrub for you to try.

This is what you’ll need:

  • ½ fresh lemon
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of organic honey
  • 1 medium-sized Tupperware bowl with lid

Add lemon juice and olive oil into a bowl. I like to use glass Tupperware as it makes for easy storage.

Add the honey and whisk or stir quickly until the ingredients bind together into a medium thick consistency.

Add in the sugar and mix. If you sense that there is not enough sugar to get the scrubbing done, add a bit more. Again, this is a personal preference.

You can add or subtract the amount of olive oil and honey that you use depending on how thick you want your scrub to be. I would keep the lemon to the juice of one half of a freshly cut lemon for every ½ cup of granulated sugar.

Benefits of the Ingredients:

  • Lemon—A natural source of Vitamin C; an ingredient commonly used to lighten sun and age spots and even out skin tone; A natural astringent that tightens pores and brightens the complexion.
  • Sugar—A natural exfoliator; a natural source of glycolic acid which evens out skin tone, cleans pores, and improves overall skin texture by removing dead, dull skin cells.
  • Olive Oil—High in Vitamin E which soothes and heals skin; a natural moisturizing ingredient often used for its anti-aging benefits.
  • Honey—A natural source of anti-oxidants making it a perfect ingredient for age prevention; a natural humectant so it locks water into the skin keeping the complexion hydrated; the antibacterial properties benefit acne-prone skin by reducing breakouts.

Well, now that you’ve gotten the ingredients and the great benefits, I hope you try it and enjoy making it. It sure saves you a whole lot of money!

Esthetics—Alpha Phase

I’ve been in the Esthetics Intro Phase about three months, getting down to the basics of facials, skin analysis, learning about skin disorders and diseases, and about the pressure points of the face and body. I always thought that esthetics was only about facials. I never even thought waxing was involved until I first went on my admission’s tour where they explained to me what I would be learning.

Now that I’ve absorbed and learned all the basics, it was time to move on up to the Alpha Phase—the Spa Experience Floor. There, I get to work on real clients instead of just doing practice facials on fellow students in class. I remember the first day on the spa experience floor—everyone was just everywhere: nervous, scared, anxious, and excited. But, eventually, we all nailed it and got everything down.

By this phase, you’ll get to find out what your weaknesses and strengths are. You’ll also find out what you like doing best. So far, I love doing facials because I get to make someone’s day better and also help make their skin look healthier. It’s just an amazing feeling. I also like waxing, especially legs and arms. I still need more practice waxing eyebrows though. Waxing eyebrows can be a bit tricky depending on the amount of hair and the desired shape. Soon enough, I’ll nail that one too with more practice. Thank god I haven’t waxed off all the hairs on someone’s brows yet!

Choosing to attend Cinta Aveda has been the best decision I’ve made in my entire life. And if I had the chance to change my past educational experiences, I’d make going to Cinta Aveda my first choice.

Top Three Favorite Skin Care Products

Aveda Embrightenment Ingredients

Since starting school at Cinta Aveda in July, I have learned so much about each line of skin care products they offer and how to use and manipulate on the skin for better outcomes and to increase the radiance of the skin. After using Aveda for a while at school and also at home, I’ve noticed great changes in my skin—it’s much less dull and oily than before. Before Aveda, I used different brands of skin care. I tried so many, but I never really stuck to one. But I’m glad I’ve chosen Cinta Aveda as a school. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gotten to try all these great natural products.

My top three favorites that I love and recommend are:

  1. Herbal Clay Mask — When you have those ugly blackheads or whiteheads, mix this with a little of the liquid Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant. Microwave that baby up in a bowl for 30 seconds. Mix it and apply on the face. Wait ten minutes and rinse with warm water. Ta-da! Your face and nose looks clean without having to extract.

  2. Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Cleanser — OMG, I love this mask! It has made my life so

easy! If you get lazy exfoliating, or even to cleanse your face, this one’s for you. It’s basically a two in one. I recommend it for people who needs a little “oomph” of moisture in their dull-ish dry skin (like mine). For this cleanser, you just wet your face with warm water, take a bit of the cleanser on the tips of your fingers, and lather it on your face in a circular motion. Then rinse and pat dry. Follow with a spritz of the Botanical Kinetics Skin Firming Toner. Now it’s all nice and smooth.

  3. Intensive Hydrating Mask — When you need that extra hydration in your skin, this mask is magic. It has aloe vera, so it works great by itself. This mask doesn’t really need heating up, but I do recommend applying a somewhat thick layer. What I particularly like about this one is that you can apply it and sleep with it overnight, then rinse in the morning. When you wake up, your skin will be quenched like you never stayed up late partying.

I have more favorite ones I’d like to talk about, but these are the basics that I feel everyone needs in their home. So I hope you go out and try these babies out!

Real Men Get Facials

Men with facial masks on.

When I offered to give my guy friends’ free facial treatments at school, their responses were, “I’ve never gotten a facial treatment before, how does it feel?” or “Do I need to cleanse my skin before hand?” My answer to them were the same—“It makes you feel cleansed and relaxed, and no, the whole point is that I cleanse your face and give it some pamper.” Yet none of them has actually come in for a free facial treatment.

Guys, I know most of you don’t even have a regular skin care regimen at home to properly cleanse your face. So I recommend you go out there now and find one! You need a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and maybe an eye cream, too. Why? Just like us women, you’re a human being with skin that can get dry, dull, oily, dehydrated, or for those with combination skin, everything in between.

Then schedule your first-ever facial treatment. There is nothing to be shy or afraid of; it’s really relaxing. A facial treatment is not only deep cleansing for your skin, but we also help you find the right treatment for your skin by analyzing it: is it dry or dull? Does it suffer from inflammation, hyperpigmentation, dehyration, and so forth. After each facial, you’ll see and feel the results—you’ll be amazed, trust me!

If you’re having trouble finding the right skin care regimen, I recommend trying Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics Purifying Crème Cleanser, Botanical Kinetics Skin Firming Toning Mist, and Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion.

Live. Love. Champagne.

Did you know that you could use champagne on your hair, your skin, and your body? I sure didn’t know that, but the idea popped up in my head so I did some quick research. Yes indeed, champagne can be good for you in general.

What’s in it that’s good for your hair, skin, and body? Well, it has very high antioxidants from the grape seed extract; and it has vitamins C & E so it’s definitely great for your hair and skin. For your body, a glass of champagne a week can help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attacks because of all the plant chemicals with antioxidant properties.

Here are some DIY’s you can do at home for fun:

  • For Smooth and Silky Hair

Just mix ½ cup of your favorite champagne with ½ cup of hot water and distribute the mix evenly throughout your hair. Let it marinate while you are painting your nails, or cleaning, or even preparing yourself for a night out, before rinsing and styling as usual.

  • Antioxidant-Rich Face Exfolliant

Just soak a cotton pad in chilled sparkling wine and wipe thoroughly across a cleansed face, neck, and décolleté.

  • For the Body

Combine 1 cup powdered milk and ½ cup Epsom salts in a bowl; add 1 or more cups of any sparkling wine—no need to splurge on the pricey stuff—and 1 tablespoon honey warmed in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir, and then pour into running bath water. When the tub is full, add in rose petals. They’re a natural emollient that hydrates and tones.

Never feel guilty sipping on that Champagne again! Happy New Year!

Beauty Trends for the New Year 2015

The Holidays are just right around the corner. Are you guys ready for 2015? I know I am! This year has gone by so fast and what a journey it has been. I am as curious as you are to see what the colors and trends for spring 2015 are going to be.

This fall/winter 2014, we’ve seen lots of simple liner, metallic eye shadows, doll-eyed lashes, shades of purple and blues, and just very bare looks on the runway – simply no makeup at all. I don’t think I can ever do that. I can’t live without my foundation!

This coming spring 2015, we’ll be seeing more cooler, softer colors, but with some subtle warm tones – aquamarine, mint green, classic blue; to warmer colors like beige, and baby pink; to oranges and browns. Makeup-wise, we’ll be seeing some more doll eye lashes and very black inked liners on the eye—how Twiggy usually wore her eyes. There’s definitely some purples that pop up here and there. The makeup looks are still very clean throughout the season.

Pantone Color Swatches for Spring 2015Pantone, in their spring 2015 color report, writes, “this season, cooler and softer color choices with subtle warm tones follow a minimalistic en plein air theme, taking a cue from nature.”

I’m very excited to wear the mint greens and blues out this upcoming season. It’s going to be so fun playing with the 2015 colors.Collection of Faces in Spring 2015 Styles and Colors
