Top Men with Iconic Hair in 2015

I have composed a list of 5 different men representing 5 different hairstyles that will represent this year of the ram, 2015.

1. For a classic, refined, but on trend:GKO3Gf0VSODmUZLlXojiZlXfjSxBVp6HD_swpQKhRm4

Like Justin, this is a slick and classic style, but Smith has enhanced this shape with shorter sides and a more pomp’d top

A Prediction on Clipper Designs

8kJMIK2u1knhomrvXZa7lq8bfH9G1nN4nUYuVpI4ck4This prediction is more based on a hunch than anything else, but it’s a strong hunch.

Designs crafted on men’s faces and scalps with the use of clippers and razors is nothing new. It has been relegated to strip malls, Dennis Rodman and botched jobs found in google search results. Though, there is an incredibly high attention to craft and detail I believe it has yet to be fully realized in the proper fashion world. Designs themselves are more times than not “street-art”-esque, graffiti, flames and tribal patterns that have purely just been out of style for well over a decade.mDayngmWXLgiPkXjVaUuZbNXfMooHOqwZw_mO5nkc3c

But, like all other things fashionable, these trends come in cycles and it’s about time we begin to re-hash the period of the late 90’s and early 00’s. It’s going to happen and all things about that period will be dragged up with it, including clipper designs. Although, my prediction is that the designs will take on a new tone. The new designs will likely be more geometric, more abstract in many cases, or purely ironic.

Look out for Bad Boy logos and wild-stylz!

5 Tips For Shaving Better

YEx8PTeUMteUSD91rc5bBGWHz3RVxFWD6uujYIZpvYMThe majority of men are thrown right into the deep end when it comes to shaving and along the way we, as men, have picked up a number of common, but unhealthy habits for our skin. The resurgence of Barbering has brought to light many of these habits that may be easily corrected with a couple of key elements.

1) First, if you’re going to be taking a razor to your face do yourself a favor and prep your skin as much as time will allow you. With a standard straight razor shave in a shop, there are over 5 preparatory steps taken before the razor touches the face. Doing just a couple will make a difference.

2) Use a pre-shave oil, like an Aveda Composition oil. Many oils will work although oils marketed “pre-shave” are specifically designed for softening the beard and are ideal.

3) Warm the skin to soften those pores and relax the skin. Using a hot towel works great for coverage, a quick tip is to wet a face towel and throw it in the microwave for about one minute and drape it over your face until it cools.

4) Apply your shave cream, or lather immediately afterwards and go with the grain. Do this before you think about shaving against the grain. This is one of those things that causes the most irritation. AFTER you’ve shaved with the grain you can go back against the grain after re-applying lather, but it’s not recommended if you’re not a daily shaver.

5) Use that same towel to wipe residue and apply a non-alcohol after shave. The Aveda After Shave is excellent and has soothing lavender and lemon scents.

Top Products To Use For Getting the Perfect Pomp

Pompadour Poof haircutThe pompadour has definitely made a comeback in the last couple of years and it requires products that are going to provide a lot of support and hold.

The first product you want to use is Aveda Men’s pomade, which is the most essential. Once the wet hair is blow-dried to a state of 100% dryness, take a healthy scoop of pomade with one finger and run through the hair in all directions until the pomade is evenly distributed. The hair is now ready to be sculpted into the pomp shape by using any grooming comb.

For extra flatness on the sides, another great product I recommend is to use Aveda Control Paste. It is dime-sized to help literally paste the hair flat.

To finish your perfect pomp, I then recommend spraying Aveda Air Control all over to set the hair.

The relationship of these three products is seamless when executing this style not just functionally, but also aromatically, providing a fresh scent of spearmint and leaving the client feeling ready to go.

I Feel Disconnected

A hair trend that has been evolving over the last couple of years among the fashion forward is reaching a nexus as masses of men confidently let go of blended hair, transitioning to a far bolder and edgy disconnected look. This has laid way to a number of styling possibilities, maintaining options to dress it up, or down. Regardless of how it is worn, this style seems to represent a kind of collision of the popular resurgence of Don Draper-esque high and tights and DYI-ness of today’s younger culture. While shaving the sides of one’s head is not difficult, sculpting it into something of style and substance is quite a bit more.

This is an exciting looking way to creative and interesting variations.

Now wrap your attention around the interesting and somewhat unlikely evolution of this look: the top knot.

What happens when a style grows out? Well, for men’s hair, it’s typically a haircut, or a trim perhaps. It’s the hinge on which our business rests. But in the last year, an interesting look—the top knot—seems to have gained popularity, and not just among the trend-setters and hipsters of our city’s streets. Top knots are being spotted everywhere, abiding by a kind of natural law that if the hair reaches then the knot is fair game. Top knots are appearing in all shapes and forms, from short stem-like sprouts, to elegantly crafted chignons. Many men are opting to tap their creative/effeminate bone to perpetuate this style.

It has been interesting to see this look evolve from what I believe to be a pseudo-throwback, the high and tight to a kind of hybrid of masculine and feminine. Will it last? Time will tell. But one thing is for sure: it’s knot for everyone.
